Lee

Hey Dan:

Technology is changing a lot of things - even the way we ‘visit’ each other. I hope to be of service to you in this season to love you and your family well through this. This site is just a way to keep your community of friends aware of your progress. So many cherish you that I could never reach them all, but this site will create a collecting spot for information and well wishes. As you share with me your plans and needs, I will post them here in as much detail as you release me to.

You are a warrior and we have been through some tough battles together, even though none were like this. Keep the faith - God still has many plans for you, my friend.

Teri Lux

Dear Dan,
First of all you are one of the strongest people I have had the pleasure of crossing paths with in my working career. Your compassion for life and the people’s lives you touch always remeber you for the wonderful person you are. Keep your faith. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please let me know if there is anything I can do help.
Thinking of you!

Dan,

Seeing the picture of you hiking makes me smile, and is a reminder to me to enjoy some of the beauty around us that we so often take for granted. Life is not always what we plan - but usually what we make of it. Your quite tough - hang tough.

You are in my thoughts.

Dan:
Having been through a similar event as yours, (mine was colon cancer back about 40 years ago), I know what you are going through. I was able to beat mine and you can too! Remember the adage…A Winner NEVER Quits and a Quitter NEVER WINS! You are one of the true winners I have met and you WILL WIN this battle. You will WIN because you have a great family and a super group of friends who are on your team pulling with you.
You are a special guy and one that is loved and respected by more than you will ever know.
Hang in there friend and let us know if there is anything we can do to help.
With much love and admiration,
Larry

Brigham Thomas

Dan,
Just spoke with Lee, and he mentioned your little predicament. Darn. You just wait a day or two for word to get around, and you are going to feel uplifted by all the prayers coming your way. I’m gonna check back with you soon to see if, indeed, you feel a little flutter, much hope, and a lot of love from all the prayers!
p.s. Disregard what you taught us in the Technopreneurial Class - in this case, HOPE is a plan!

Dan,

Brigham left me a message on my machine and this link on my e-mail. I guess bad news travels fast! But the good news is the more we know, the more we know what to pray for specifically.

Right now, we are going to pray for a great big miracle — God works in that department all the time!! We will also pray for wisdom, Godly doctors, guidance, and peace for you and your family.

Please let us know what else to add to our list!!

Dan,
Our paths crossed long ago and you may not even remember me, but I remember you well. As one of your other friends said, you have touched many lives including mine and I will always think of you with great admiration.
I am praying for God’s miracle of total and complete healing, but you do not have to wait another second for the comfort of His true and miraculous love. Allow yourself to be wrapped by His warm and tender love and accept the generous offerings of love, encouragement, and assistance by your many friends.

Dear Mr. Healed:
I call you healed b/c Jesus paid a great price for your healing (Is 53:5, Matt 8:17, 1 Pet 2:24) and I call those things that be not as though they are (Rom 4:17). Abraham was called the father of nations b4 it was manifested. I called you healed. Acts 10:38 declares Jesus went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil for God was with Him. God said in Ps 91 that he would satisfy you with looooooong life. I agree with Ps 118:17 that you will live and declare the works of the Lord. Keep the faith (faith is NOW - Heb 11:1) and speak to your mountain (Mark 11).

“I’m trading my sorrow, I’m trading my shame. I’m laying it down for the joy of the Lord.
I’m trading my sickness, I’m trading my pain. I’m laying it down for the joy of the Lord. . .
I’m pressed but not crushed persecuted not abandoned
Struck down but not destroyed.
I’m blessed beyond the curse for His promise will endure
And His joy’s gonna be my strength.”

Matt Collins

Dan,
I’ve always thought of you as one of the most blessed people I’ve ever met. You were one of the coolest dads in Oak Ridge and you have consistently served as an example of how a godly man should care for his family and all others he comes into contact with. While it is very disturbing that you have cancer, I refuse to believe that God is going to stop blessing you and your family now. I will earnestly pray for a full recovery and I’m confident God will grant it, because He has much more work for you to do. There aren’t enough humble and willing servants in this world and the harvest is as plentiful as ever. I believe that God will bring you through this to make your service even greater. In case I haven’t said it before, thank you for the role you and Jan have played in my life. I have truly been enriched by knowing your family.

Matt

Mike Hatcher

Dan,

It was good to hear from you but not under the circumstances. I hope you connected with the person we discussed and also hope he was a good resource. You and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers every day and will continue to be. I’m amazed at how many people you know-they are all pulling for you!

Dan: we have only seen each other in person, and spoken, a few times, but I feel I know you through your sons. proverbs 17:6 says that the glory of sons is their fathers. Your sons have shared many stories of the faithful ways you have fathered them. so I know your sons have glory in the Lord because you are their father. I am praying fervently for healing in Jesus’ Name. May this season witness to God’s glory. May He give you strength in the pain, patience in the waiting.

Jason Mayfield

Dan and Jan -
Your family has always been a great blessing to us. Jennifer and I are praying for your recovery.

Prayer is power! I look through your list and you’re a winner my friend. Even my son-in-law adores you, and he’s never met you. Thank you Dan and family for allowing my girls to know Jesus in person through each of you. I am on my knees in prayer for your immediate healing (I don’t beat around the bush)! God is sovereign and loving and above all, will never abandon us. Isn’t that just the most wonderful thing in the world!! Because of Him, Judie

Dan:

Remember first getting to know you over 20 years ago at Covenant Presbyterian working with the Jenkins’ family and the youth ministry. As an engineering student , you volunteered to show me around the robotics lab at ORNL and took a good part of your day to do this.

Fast forward more than 20 years and you are the Chairman of the BoD of our company where we count on your coaching for technical, business, and spiritual issues….that’s a pretty complete mentor.

Yesterday, we assembled the management team and put together a set of challenging 90 day goals for our company. At the close of the meeting, I shared with them that we would dedicate the achievement of these goals to you and they would be called the “DK challenge”.

Asked the team to remember that you are in the challenge of your life and we can use these challenging goals as a reminder to pray for you.

We’ll be praying…. unceasingly.

We give Him praise and thanksgiving for meeting your every need.

Dan,

Hey Tribro (remember that one?), I just heard about your situation. The news sure took a huge edge off celebrating the Illini trouncing of Michigan at Ann Arbor today. U of I football has greatly improved since we were there! But, so has medical technology (even more so).

Put yourself in the best hands and beat this thing!

I hope you can draw some inspiration from another entrepreneur and contemporary of us both (almost exactly!), Steve Jobs. Mr. Jobs endured a similar crisis four years ago.

Vicky and I will keep you and Jan in our hearts and minds as you battle this. We will check this site often to monitor your status.

Hang in there, muchacho.

Jim

Kim Kuban

Danny,
Paul, Sam, Anna, and I are all praying for you daily. I found this site when I checked my facebook account. (I hadn’t checked it in months.) Scott posted the information. I’m so glad he did. I like reading the prayers and Bible verses your friends have posted. We’ll be watching for the next prayer day you have at your house, and we’ll join in here in Indiana.
It is nice to read messages from all the people whose lives you have touched. Danny, you are the only man I have ever met who truly lives his life like Jesus meant all of us to live. From these posts, it’s obvious others see that too.

Kim

Dan-

Paul Martin

Hey Dan, Your faith has always been an inspiration for me. Your quiet example and care for me in my time of trouble has kept me whole and made me a better person. I will not be the first friend you think of in time of need — I have read their many words of concern. But, I hope at the end of the day I am the one you call on to help. I have a strong back and can carry a heavy burdon. Share yours with me. You and God will work out your care and your future is in his hands. Let me wash the car when it needs it, mow the lawn or go to the store. I can drive you to the doctor, read you the paper when you are recovering from therapy, and pick Jan up from the airport. Most of your friends have better pull with God than I do, their prayers will sustain you. I ask only that you let me serve your needs while you fight this curse. I admire you Dan and your faith sustains us all. With Best wishes and devotion, Paul

Dan,
You have been in my thoughts and prayers every day since we last saw each other. Your Courage and your Faith will serve you well, and the prayers that are delivered on your behalf will hopefully be answered. If there is anything that I can do to be of service to you or Jan,
Please let me know. I will continue to pray every day for you. You have given so much to so many, allow us to be of service to you and your Family in this difficult time.
Wishing God hears our Prayers. Keith

Martha Polston

Dan,

There are two memories of you that I have that are relevant to this note. The first is a not so happy one of the day when you were in court with us during the divorce. Despite my personal anguish, I remember that you also had no joy on your face when faced with the role you played in the process. I remember having compassionate that day for a good man caught in a bad situation with the rest of us. The second memory is a happier one. I remember when you first joined us at TRI and you were so convinced that God had this in your life’s journey and you were meant to be there. You weighed the options in leaving the “safe” environment of the Lab, but I don’t think you ever really doubted that God was directing your path. Certainly that journey was not what you imagined on that day but it turned out well in many ways and an education of a lifetime in others. Both situations sum up what I think of you and your life – a man who has lived an unwavering life of faith trying to show the love, joy, and compassionate of Christ to all in his path.

I am so sorry that your path has now led you to this dark trial but I am no less sure that you will show the glory of God through this path also. I love the chapter of Matthew 17 where Jesus is transfigured on the mountaintop at the start of the chapter and the story of having faith to move a mountain is at the end of the chapter. The point that remained with me is one I think is pertinent for you – whether you have to climb this mountain and put it under your feet (like at Macchu Picu) or whether the mountain is moved, God’s glory can be revealed either way the journey leads. I have two prayers for you – the first is the one that Jesus prayed for Peter that when he was sifted, his faith would not fail him (Luke 22:31). The second is Isaiah 43:2 that the fires and waters of this trial will not sweep over nor set you ablaze because the Lord your God is with you through it all.

I regret that Satan and our own failures in life have brought distance but I have appreciated the unconditional love you have shown Nina. I have also appreciated that Lee and I have been able to be a somewhat good “prodigal family” for Nina – not the one that God meant for us to be but redeemed for good nevertheless. She is growing up well in many ways and I am thankful for the people like you that have contributed to that.

I know a little of the man you are and it has been a blessing for me to write this word of encouragement to that effect (much easier for me than spoken!) I hope it is a blessing to you and one of many small blessings that God uses to stroke your cheek and remind you tangibly that He is with you each hour of this stage of life’s journey. Jesus came that we might have LIFE and have it abundantly – that is still His plan for you and I know, through faith, you will find the walk that carries you though this for His glory, your peace, and a joy that passes all understanding.

Your sister in Christ,
Martha Polston

Your Little Bro - Tom

Hi Danny - Up here in Wisconsin and just finished visiting with Mom, Dad, Duffy & Cindy. You are in all of our thoughts and prayers. Difficult to know what to say other than I know God has you in His plans. We may not understand His methods - and, we might never figure them out — but, keep Strong and Faithful! An e-mail or text message cannot provide the comfort that we would like to provide. And, I am not very good at quoting Scripture or paraphrasing the Bible. But, I do recall something about not worrying about tomorrow - today has enough worries of it’s own. We have been blessed within our immediate family with very few tragedies, many strong and healthy children - and long, stable marriages. You are a major part of the success in all of our lives - and always will be. May God be with you and remember - He will carry you through the roughest times. All of our Love to Yourself, Jan, the boys and their wives and children (& the ones to come…).

Tom, Lauretta and the boys

Scott Baker

Dan,
From our first meeting, I knew there was something special about you, but more specifically about how closely you held your relationship to the Lord. Through God’s grace, you have such a zeal to serve in the ways He leads you.
Now after getting to know you through Crown and Jeff, I realize I’ve been given a model. Your example has challenged, encouraged, and bred a jealousy in both Lesa and me to please to the Lord with obedience like yours. You live the life-A Servant of the Most High God–you are true to your title.
As I read the heart-level remarks poured out from those who love you and Jan, we are thankful the Lord’s allowed us the opportunity to pray for you. With hearts of gratitude, Lesa and I join you–hoping in the Lord. We commit daily to request healing and grace for you. And we will bring our requests with the full confidence that He is in control of this circumstance, that He is kindly disposed to us through Jesus, and that He will sustain and carry you and Jan with strength and mercy. We will recruit others to pray within our care groups and prayer teams at Cornerstone. We and others will lift many, many prayers.
If there is anything possible for us to do for you, Jan or the family, we would be honored.
Much love and respect,
Scott and Lesa

Dan,
I’ve known you and your family since Kevin and I started thursday school at age 2. I love you and your family. I remember you bringing candy to lunch and giving it out, we still talk about you. I say that so you know how touched people were by your simple actions. When I think of you, I think of a servant. Thank you for always being willing to serve. Josh and I send all our love and prayers to you and your family.

Dan,

You reached out to me when I was in college and new believer. You modeled many things for me, and one of those was how to pray. I am praying for you and your family throughout every day.

God used you to impact my life more than you know. I am a better man because of your faithfulness. Thank you! I love you brother.

You’re on my list of heroes! Praying for God to reveal Himself in really big ways!

Dan,
great to have a chance to hug you yesterday on the way into church with your family. You are certainly being surrounded by the Father wth family, friends, and community. You are seeing the fruit of life with Jesus. We all desire to stand beside in trust and support, expecting the goodness of the Father to be displayed. I am praying daily for healing. As you know, I am always available by phone or email. For now, I wll keep in touch in this way to create space for your family. I look forward to praying with you next Sunday if not before. on the journey, Rick

Lauretta

Dear Dan,

I know Tom sent you an e-mail last night, but I also wanted to send one to you :-) a smiley face Hey, who’s always laughin’ & jokin’ around in the family? It’s time to LIFT YOU UP and put a smile upon your face!

The “story” below is true and I wanted to share it with you:
It’s been six years since my father passed away from colorectal cancer - it seems like only yesterday. He had to have surgery to remove 7 inches of his colon. I remember keeping in touch with my Mom throughout this difficult time. I so desperately wanted to “cheer up” my Dad and just give him something to smile about.

He went into surgery very early that morning. While at home, I made a split-second decision to drive across the state to visit him in the hospital. I made a quick pit stop in town to pick up some balloons & flowers - anything to put a smile on his face.

Throughout the 3-hour drive, I wondered what I would say to him and soon I felt my nerves getting the best of me. Was I doing the right
thing? Would he even want visitors coming & going??

It seemed as though people were staring at me as soon as I pulled into the parking lot. I was quite nervous going into the hospital and, with a shaky voice, I asked the receptionist for my Dad’s room number. She smiled at me . . .

There were a lot of people still staring at me. Maybe I had something on my face . . .

They were also smiling, too, as I took the ride in the elevator. I even had a doctor talk to me and he mentioned that I should stop by the children’s ward if only for a few minutes! I tipped my hat to all of them as I made my exit . . .

Wow, I thought, everyone was so incredibly friendly, and soon the nerves just melted away - now, I was happy AND at ease!! That’s exactly where I needed to be . . .

I walked down 2 hallways before I found my Dad’s room. I didn’t just want to barge in, so I peeked in. At first, I saw my Mom sitting in a
recliner with her eyes closed - napping- perfect I thought. My eyes scanned over to Dad in the bed, also with his eyes closed. I tip-toed as
quietly as I could into the room. I have big feet . . .

Mom, being a light napper, woke up, but I didn’t say a word. I just waved & set the balloons/flowers down. Dad opened up his eyes.
At this point, I’d have to say that this is the best part of the whole thing - Mom & Dad did not know who I was . . . you see, I came to
visit the two of them dressed as “GOD’S CLOWN”!

I smiled at them, sat down on my Mom’s lap, and gave her a HUGE HUG. She said to me, “DO I KNOW YOU?” Well, I didn’t want to blow my cover right then, so I just nodded my head & winked ;-)

It was Dad who eventually figured it out, and when he did, as weak and tired as he was, a BIG SMILE appeared on his face - he was grinning ear to ear!

We all had a good laugh, but both of them could not believe that it was me under all of the clown makeup, hobo clothes, big clown shoes,
tiny clown hat, etc! All these years, they never saw me “all dressed up” as a clown.

During the afternoon hours, different nurses would pop in to check on Dad, all of them saying that the little ones in the children’s ward
would love to see me, and so I went & visited - wanting to put smiles on their little faces, too!

At the end of the day, I was so pleased that Dad had found some happiness & laughter.

I had figured out a way to make my Dad (and Mom) SMILE.

Dan & Jan - please let me know if “GOD’S CLOWN” can do anything . . . anything at all for you!!!

Keep smiling . . . keep the faith,

Lauretta

Hi Dan!
As I read the notes sent to you one can see that you are surrounded by love. Your kind and giving nature continues to bless others. I am one of those fortunate people that have been touched by your grace. Way back in high school I would ask (actually I think it got to begging at times) for help working on our class floats for homecoming or decorating for a dance. You were always one of the first to come to my rescue!!! I will keep you, Jan and your family in my prayers. God be with you and guide you always. May God light the way with His wisdom, calm the way with His peace and make a way with His love.
With my love,

Dan, it has been awhile since we saw each other last, but we have several mutual friends. Bill Hamel and I are in the same men’s bible study group. You and your family are already in our prayers.

Patrick and Patty Hull

Dear Dan and Jan,

We heard the news of your tumor just the other day when Mom called from China. Our hearts hurt for you knowing your family will be going through some very tough days ahead. Please know that we will be diligently praying for healing for your body, for encouragement for your heart, and courage for your journey.

This scripture has encouraged us recently during health crises with our little girl…

“Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Remember, O Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.”
Psalm 25:4-6

This website is great and we will be checking it frequently for updates.

Love,
Patrick and Patty Hull

Hey guys,

You have been on my mind and heart since I heard the news about your health. The verse that keeps coming to my mind is John 11:4… “This sickness is not to end in death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.” I know this was spoken in regard to Lazarus…but I am also prompted to pray this scripture over you and believe it is for you also.

In His Grip,
Toni

Dan,
You are such an inspiration to so many people and are so deserving of the miracle of healing that all of us are praying for now. The world is a much better place because of the love of Christ you show to so many. Please know that you and Jan, and the rest of your family are in our hearts and prayers.

With love,
Kathy, Jeff, Julie, and David

My heart is heavy with your news, yet very hopeful for you in His watchcare. He keeps bringing you to my mind, and my main prayer for you Dan is that you enjoy God in ever-increasing measure in these days…like never, ever before.

Wendy Johnson (Amor Ministries)

Dear Dan,

My heart broke when Scott Congdon told us of your tumor. I lost my mom 11 years ago to pancreatic cancer, and know the battle you face.

Your presence will be missed at the upcoming board meeting, but the battle you are engaged in is far greater and much more important. I have always been impressed by your servant heart and wisdom, but reading these notes from your friends, family and strangers show us all how effective you are in the Kingdom. The Amor Team is praying for your healing and strength to fight this important battle - your work is not done, by any means.

I praise God that you have been given time to be with your family and friends, and pray that you can draw from their love and prayers to put this cancer down.

Your coworker in Christ,

Dan,

Hi Dan,
I am a good friend of Kevin’s and have been praying for you ever since I heard about your condition. I had the privilege of meeting you a couple times down in Chattanooga. May God’s hand be upon you and your family.

I am sure you have heard of a variety of treatments, but I wanted to send you a link to the Hippocrates Health Institute in Florida. I read about in a book a year or so ago and thought about it when I heard about you. It was pretty random that I read that book, or so I thought. Maybe it can help in the healing process.

Dan (Papa Kuban,)
Kev has been keeping me up to date on what is happening. I want you to know that I am praying for you too and I have let a few other friends of ours know also so they can pray. No advice or words that I can give can say anything that hasn’t been said. However, I can say something that can’t be said enough, that our Jesus is powerful, mysterious, and under control!!! I know that He is near and will never leave you. I know that He is taking care of you. I know that He is working in your life and in the lives of others around you. I pray that His healing power comes over you and makes you new, because only He can. Thanks for the example you have lived for all of us even in this time of trial.

Dear Dan,

I am praying for you along these lines and know in the process of it all God will love on you and teach you many things about His unfailing delight in you.

Thinking of you and Jan today and always!

Teri lux

Lauretta

Hey Dan & Jan,

Just wanted to drop you a line to say that our thoughts & prayers continue to be with you . . . today and everyday.

We have been browsing through the many pictures that you have posted on this website - ah, yes, good times and great memories! I especially liked the photo of you & Jan in front of Mount Rushmore because it reminded me of our visit in 1982. We were on our honeymoon and wanted to see Mt. Rushmore (& Crazy Horse too). Tom decided that he wanted to “really” be in the picture, so he climbed up onto a rail and made it look like his head was next to Washington’s!!!
What a NUT - I think we still have that picture!!!

Anyway, it sounds as though you are in good spirits and keeping yourself busy with various “hikes & ziplines”.

P.S. - There’s an old Johnny Cash song that reminds me of you and Jan and it goes:
“I’ve been everywhere, man, I’ve been everywhere . . .” and he starts to list numerous cities around the country :-)

All Our Love,
T & L

Andy Rittenhouse

Dan - the Rittenhouse family has for many years been the recipient of your love and affection. For years you have stopped by our house to gather up my children and take them away for the day. You are a hero in my home. My boys think you are Jesus with skin on. The foosball table you gave us never gets dusty as we play it all the time! In addition, I know the Mexico trips, the coaching, the Habitat House volunteering — all you’ve done for so many years. Your life is one of the greatest reasons why people would follow Jesus in our city. I love you with strong emotions. Your life offers PROOF that God is real - and our city is desperate for proof. Thank you for living a connected life — to God and to your community. I love you man and when I grow up, I want to be just like you. Andy Rittenhouse

Dan,

I want to let you know that we have been praying for you and will continue. I have always been so encouraged by your genuine heart and passion for God even through this time as noted in the journal. Thanks for the example you have been. Keep fighting and pressing on to know the Lord. I want to encourage you with my favorite Psalms of late: Psalm 43 and Psalm 71:7-18.
“Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation and my God.”

Susan Gonzalez

Dear Dan,
I wanted to let you know that I have been praying for you and your family ever since I heard about your health troubles several weeks ago. The Lord brings you to mind almost daily (especially at night for some reason and sometimes when I wake up in the middle of the night) and I am continuing to lift you up in prayer. I am sorry that you will have to undergo the chemo and radiation treatments, but I am going to ask God to keep your taste buds working well,to give you a voracious appetite, and to give you a strength that you are very aware is from Him! Though I have not had to deal with cancer, I have had some difficult health issues to walk through from time to time over the past 20+ years. Though I wouldn’t have chosen that path for myself, the Lord has shown His great love for me and revealed to me How sufficient His grace is for me during the times when I was at my lowest points. I know He will reveal to you His sweet presence in an even deeper way in the weeks ahead. I am also convinced that He will use your testimony to bring Him glory and to minister to others. Yamil and I will be praying for you and Jan and your boys especially in the next several weeks.

Love in Christ,
Susan

Mom

Just a note to say thank you for being such a great son. You never caused us any problems (except when you sneaked behind the TV and messed up the picture when you were about 18 months old.) I thank God for you every day, Dan! I will continue to double my prayers for you. God bless

Dan,
I can only double or triple what others have said. I thank you for being an inspiration to my own two sons, Mike and Paul, and to Michelle, who remembers some great fun times in youth group with a man who displayed God’s love and grace to all. You have been like a father and a mentor to Mike, and an encourager and prayer warrior for Paul. They all love and respect you, and have witnessed Jesus in your life. Scott has been doing some work on our (Krista, her husband, Darren, and myself) home we just bought together. He let me know what was going on in your life. I have been praying and will continue to pray for you. You have been a blessing and example for all of us. The latest results are wonderful. May God continue to bless you with His great healing and peace!

All the homes you have worked on in Tijuana the past few years are still very intact and inhabited by Christ-followers that are still being blessed by your gifts! May God continue to bless you my brother!

The other Dan the Man

Greetings oh great Kuban one!
Dan the Man here. It was so good to chat with you the other day and to hear, and now read, that your health is improving. I am also encouraged by reading about the man I thought I knew.

When we first met going to look at some of the projects that Fellowship would be doing for OBY, I was struct by your interests for the folks we serve in the city. It was only when I saw your love and faith in action that it was confirmed just how much the Fathers love lives in, and more importantly through you. Since we will not be doing projects together next summer, because of my exit not yours, I will miss our conversations over the tailgate of a truck about just how awesome the group of kids are that come out every summer; and just how does Hunter Banister climb trees like a cat.
I will continue to monitor your progress via this site, and many thanks for the person that set it all up. By the way, the lady that your helped with the W/D and the $$ gift is thrilled to be able to sleep in her own home and not at a shelter. Stay strong Senior Kuban.

Dave Richards

Hey Dan,

I was talking to Peyton Moore and he told me about your problem. I had prostate cancer surgery New Years Day and have been free of it so far. Just wanted to say I remember the days at Bldg. 1000 and our brief encounter with Lee and the video viewer project. You are an impressive guy particularly as a follower for Christ. I’m 69 now and continue following Christ. I’ve made my 3rd trip out west this fall in the RV (to Seattle). I have 12,000 pictures from the 3 trips including most of the National Parks in the western USA.

You will be on our Chruch/Sunday School prayer List. In my opinion you are deserving of the James: “Crown of Life”.

Hey Dan,

I know in Robertsville TSA, I never got to talk to you much or spend a lot of time with you, but I always looked up to you and appreciate so much what you have done for RMS TSA. Whenever I hear your name, I think of the fun guy with the big smile always willing to say hi or help you out any way possible, and how amazingly generous you always were toward us all! I don’t know many people who would pay for 40 kids to eat for free at Rain Forest Cafe! You were always a huge part of RMS TSA and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate how much you have given up for all of us kids that have come through there over the years. I’ll continue to keep you in my prayers and thoughts and hope that you maintain your amazing strength and faith in God through this difficult journey.

I already put this scripture on here before, but I am impressed today to list it again.

Psalm 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom (or what-DG note) shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom (or what-DG note) shall I be afraid?

I am sorry I haven’t done this sooner. I don’t know if you know who I am but I am Jacob’s girlfriend and I have heard many great things about you. I just wanted to let you know that I am very big in my faith and I have been praying for you since the day Jacob told me the bad news. It sounds like you are doing well, the lord definently has his hand on your shoulder. You are a good man and have a lot of people praying for you, including Jared and I’s FCA huddle. I wish you the best of luck, and let the lord be with you.

love-
Jessie

Tonight Adam Vaughn spoke of Operation Backyard and you naturally were the first person that I thought about.

Oh how my heart breaks for your pains.

Christ, please bring Dan peace, comfort, and relief. Thank you for the man that he has become and for shining through him.

Amen.

Dan you are so vibrant!

Bill and Kitty Job

Hey Dan,

We just heard about the new battle the Lord has you waging, and we want you to know we’re in the fight right along with you as you “manifest the manifold wisdom of God before the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms.” You already have a long history of doing this, to the enemy’s dismay and to God’s greater glory! We praise Him for the equipping He has given you through a long life of generous service. His Grace is abounding in you, dear Brother!

All our love to you, Jan and the family,
Bill and Kitty Job
P.S. Kitty’s in town and would love to contact Jan!

Sue and John Dee

Dear Dan and Anne,
We are shocked to hear what you guys are going through. Please know you and the family will be in our prayers.

Stan Cooper

Dan,

You are an inspiration to me and others around you. It may sound a little weird coming from me but You are. You’ve always been a positive, unselfish, kind-hearted person. We don’t know how blessed we are until we have occurrences that causes us to reflect upon them. You are a blessing to all whom you come in contact with. Heavenly Father has blessed you and will continue to bless you for all the good deeds you do. I would ask that as you go and share with others of the wonderful works of Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father, that you would pray earnestly for those things that you should speak of. Dan you are a Good man. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

God Bless,
Stan

The Name of Jesus is above all names. Cancer has a name. Jesus’ Name is above cancer. Cancer is defeated by the Name of Jesus.

In His Name:

Mark 16 17.And these signs shall follow them that believe ; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18.They shall take up serpents (you know this is symbolic of demons, don’t try to be a snake handler! LOL); and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

beth nelson

Dan, I will continue to pray for you. May His peace beyond all understanding be with you today.

Dan,

It’s been a few years since we’ve seen each other, and I’m really grieved to hear that you’ve been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

When I think of you, I remember the godly example you were to me as a teen. You were impressive then, especially with you humor, but now that I’m an adult you are more impressive.

Tim and Cher Stallings

Dan,
You are an awesome servant of the Most High God. We know that God is in control and we trust Him. Our prayer is for complete healing for you and that God will reveal Himself more fully to you each day as you go through this stage of life’s journey. You and your family have been an inspiration to our family. Your love, support and generosity will always be cherished. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May the love of God and the power of the Holy Spirit minister to you daily.
Sincerely in Christ,
Tim and Cher Stallings

Dan, I read this which gave me much peace:
“..we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Hebrews 6:18-19

It’s the day before Thanksgiving, and I’m so thankful our families paths crossed. What sweet, sweet memories I have.

Paula Watkins

Dan,
Jere and I continue to lift you up before the throne. We pray for you daily! Reading Lee’s postings has encouraged and blessed us. Another friend is walking through chemo and radiation and he, like you, is holding onto Jesus through it and blessing the socks off people along the way. Thanks for being faithful in the storm!

Hi Dan !
It’s 14 degrees with snow and ice. Scraping the windshields and wearing winter coats already. L, boys and myself say hello and continue to pray. Somehow, the air always seems cleaner and fresher outdoor during these colder days. You are in our thoughts and also give our love to Jan & the entire family.

Hi Dan, Just checking in to let you know that I am thinking about you. I’ve been reading your blog and talking to lee. Hope your spirits continue to remain high. If they get down call me. I’ll cheer you up with some bad jokes. Send you my best, Paul

Jenn (Strasser) Ross

Love the video! That was awesome. I was watching it just now with Julia (3) next to me and she all of sudden said, “and a family.” I was like, “what?” so she repeated herself and being somewhat slow I was still confused. Then I heard the lyrics, “all you need is love,” and according to my little one, “and a family”. It’s obvious you have tons of both.
Thinking of you often.
Much love to you and Jan,
Jenn

Susan Gonzalez

Dan,
It was so good to see you and Jan at the communion table on Sunday. You both really look great! We are so pleased that your chemo treatments are behind you and that you only have a few more radiation treatments left. Know that God still brings you to mind often and we are continuing to lift you up to our great God!

Hi Dan,
We’ve only met a few times, but I feel I know you more than that as my daughter Caroline joined you ( via Nina Martin) on the raft trip through the Grand Canyon several years ago and we remain close with the Martin’s through our church group. Your story rich in faith, friendship and love is a beautiful reflection of Christ and a blessing to so many. Please know that our family is praying for you and hoping for the very best. Blessings, Mary

Chris Clark

Dan-

I have only had the pleasure of spending time with you in a casual business setting, but it was easy to see how compassionate and caring you were for those around you, regardless of how well you knew them. I want to thank you for taking the time to give me honest advice from a business perspective. Daily I remember the discussion you, Mike Carroll, and I had a Parkside Tavern well over a year ago. You provided me a solid perspective on building a business and I will always be grateful for the time you gave to me. I hope to one day return the favor to another young entrepreneur. God Bless!

Bob Severin

Dan, on my request Claire sent me your email address. I’ve been able to sort of keep up with your progress as Millie still meets every Friday morning at church.

I hope this find you nearing the end of your chemo and radiation treatments and they will be completely successful.

Watching my wife, Suzanne, suffer through cancer last year and part of this year I appreciate the difficulty with chemo and something about the good and bad it does.

However, I also think of my brother John and his battle 25 years ago with cancer. He had surgery and chemo and has been cancer free ever since.

I have been and will continue to pray for your recovery and for your family.

Bob Severin

Angi Agle

Dan, it was so good to see you today! I truly hope that you feel as well as you look, and we wish you a blessed Christmas.

Merry Christmas! Thanks for your example of joy and hope in Christ. Doing the Crown Bible study together this year was one of my highlights of 2008 and I am thankful for the new friendship with you as a result of that time together!.Isaiah 33:5,6 The Lord is exalted for He dwells on high …and He is the stability of your times, a wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is his treasure.

Mike Mahoney

Dan, Ty told Jimmy Alberico told me about you. I’ve been watching your story and praying for you all along. For encouragement I would have you know another LTHS classmate has been doing well under the same circumstances for a few years now.
Recalling our friendship dating to kindergarten with fondness I am wishing you well, a Merry Christmas and the Happiest New Year ever.

You have been on our minds for several days. The
prayer today before reading the most recent email

May you feel the LOVE that we all have for you as the family at Fellowship and believers in the grace of Jesus.

Dan,
So sorry to hear that you have developed an infection. We are going to ask God to clear that up soon and to give you new strength day by day. I know the Enemy would want to cause you to become discouraged by this “setback”, but God is able to show you His abundant grace and love yet again with HIS healing power. Dan and Jan,
I visit this site about on a weekly basis and see you are taking a hard tumble in an already hard journey. It is my hope that my prayers and those of the many others here will be a help to sustain your through this dark hour. Jan, I think of your own rough road also. I do not forget that you are traveling on this journey also.
I read in the journal entries that you are considering an alternative modality of treatment. I have been interested in those for quite some time. I can tell you that I am a witness to a small number of friends and acquaintances who HAD cancer and chose alternatives as a complimentary treatment.
I hope you find the way that fits you perfectly.

I declare Proverbs 4:7 over you. God is giving you wisdom and the understanding on what to do with that wisdom.

Also, Ps 5:12 that the favor of God is all around you.

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; Yea, with all thy getting get understanding.

Dan,
I have been praying for you. A verse that comes to my mind when I think about you is Duet.33 ‘ 25-27 ” The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze, and your strength will equal your days. There is no one like the God of Jeshurun ( Dan ), who rides on the heavens to help you and on the clouds in His majesty. The eternal God is your refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms. ” I’m glad you are feeling well enough to go out. I will be praying for your continued recovery.

Hello Dan & Jan!!! You are in my prayers, my thoughts, and my heart daily. I literally have thousands of people praying for you each weekend and wanted you to know. Many approach me asking of your status. I recently inquired to Kevin through Facebook how I can find out updates on you without having to bother you with a million phone calls. He led me to this site. I am sooo grateful for that info. I also think it is wonderful that your friend Lee is able to maintain this site for you. I realize it very tiring to communicate with “the Multitudes” who are praying for you and with you. I hope to see you very soon. All My Love, Geralyn

We continue to lift you up in prayer and think of you often. You guys are such an inspiration to so many of us. You’ve touched some many lives and forever have changed the world to glory of Christ. We will lift you up to our Father and trust Him. We love you.

Dan,

Laura and I continue to pray for you and your family. We are also giving you to the Lord in our small group each week. It is such a testimony to see you at church through this whole process. You are a champ and God’s gift to many.

Simonette Cherepanov

Dan, I’m sorry I haven’t written a note before but I have been praying for you from day 1 that I received the prayer request. Know that you are in our prayers and we have no doubt that God will guide you to the right option to take unless He over rides them all and heals you completely. That is our constant prayer and we’ll continue to pray that way! God is who commands you to be strong and courageous, do not be terrified, do not be discouraged because He is the Lord your God. He will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 That is His word for all His children. He will never leave you nor forsake you. May He protect your mind and heart in perfect peace in Christ Jesus!
With our hearts in hand, Pete and Simi

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

My thoughts are with you and your family always. I love you all! Judie

Spring appears to be here — the trees are budding and blooming, the daffodils are out and so is the forsythia. I love all of the color. Although it is raining today, I think it just means we will have greener grass and more flowers soon.

March Madness is almost here. I sure hope the Vols beat Auburn today. I was worried about them having to play AND beat Florida for a third time. I’ hopeful that they have their act together and will win the SEC. That would be great.

I’ve been working in my yard and wondered if you would like some help getting your yard ready for Spring. I will be out of tow for a week starting tomorrow, but I would love to come and work in your yard. Just let me know.

God’s blessings to you and Jan.

Your friend and neighbor,

Hi, Dan.
Just wanted to let you and Jan know that we have been praying for you and will continue to do so. We know God is faithful and works all things for good. We enjoy hearing how you are redeeming the time and finding joy.
It is our prayer that you will sense God’s presence and His peace more and more, and be able to rest in Him; and that at the same time, you will experience the abundant life that He will continue to give to you both forever.
Much love,
Tom and Juanita

Hi Dan,

Since the weather is getting warmer I was wondering if you like to go for a bike ride one day. I’m not very fast, nor do I ever go very far. Just give me a call if that would be of interest to you. 806-9659

Hey Dan, just got in town for a day and found myself thinking about you and Jan. We have been praying for you as are about a million people. But I realized I love thinking about you, your smile, optimism, your love of the Lord and people. I always find myself moved by that unique stuff you bring to the world. Miss you. Let me know if you would enjoy taking a ride in the Cobra one of these beautiful days. One of your many old friends, Bill Job

Dan,
Just a note to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. You are in a tough fight, but if anyone I know is capable of winning, it’s you. I’ve never known you to back down from anything and this is not the time to start doing so. All my love to you, Jan, the boys and grandkids. Keep the faith!

Mr. Dan,

Just wanted to write and tell that I wish you the very best in your recovery. I wanted you to know, you were one of the best bosses I ever had the opportunity to work with at the Lab starting out green in the 80’s. You will notice that I have taken your advice and not submitted this note in my standard penmanship. As I always told you when you reviewed my drawing packages, The information was legible when the ink was wet!! You wrote in my DPPR that my performance had improved 110% since I had started typing my reports… I was reminiscing with Huston S. Monday, back when we had the tornado in Mossy Grove a couple years back and the state and local police had the roads completely shut down to all traffic in and out of Morgan County. You drove all of the backroads from Coalfield up and down the winding one lane Cassell Rd. to my Fab shop to check and see if Marilyn and I were okay and was there anything that you could do to help clear debris or was there anything that we were in need of. It ment more than you will ever know. I have always appreciated the wisdom and encouragement you afforded me when I took the big step and left a safe comfortable job with the government after 21 years to set up a small engineering company and the small projects that you were kind to offer us when we were just starting up. It makes a difference when someone you know who has become successful, takes the time to reach out and offer a helping hand. A wise friend enlighted me when I first started, It is never the money one makes in business that makes you wealthy, but rather the people you meet and the journey you travel together that makes one a rich person. You are in our prayers and I can truly say, I am a richer person for having journeyed with you. Give me a call at the shop when you can, 423-346-2555

Hello Dan! Grace, Emily, Andrew and I have been praying for you whenever you come to mind. One of our frequent prayers is for the Shalom of God for you and your family. And, of course, we always ask for complete healing, however God wants to do it, whether through medicine or supernaturally (or a combination!). You are greatly missed in the Missions’ area at FEFC! Your life and service impacted many for Christ. I’m asking the Lord for health and strength so that you can continue to serve Him!

Pete and I will be praying with you for this Wednesday procedure. We rejoice with you for the opportunity God gave you to share with your family. HALLELUJAH!!!May the Lord continue to stengthen you faith and restore your health. We know God is able to do more than we can ask or imagine. So we keep asking!!!
Blessing to you mighty man of valor!!!!!!

Dan,
Just wanted to let you know that we have started praying for the procedure to be successful tomorrow and for God’s peace for you and your family going into it. You have been in our thoughts and prayers often and recently our son, Jonathan, mentioned your help in driving the Fellowship bus last summer to the Jenkins farm for a middleschool function. You really are an inspiration to many in the way you live your life for Jesus, and I am sure you have touched thousands for the Kingdom of God. May you and Jan continue to walk in HIS strength and abundant grace that He freely gives you. When our children were younger, we used to sing this Scripture to them and this is my prayer for you tomorrow: The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face shine upon you and give you peace. The Lord be gracious to you.

In Christ’s love,
Susan, Yamil, Jonathan, Andrew, and Katie

David Bianconi

Dan,

Kristin and I have prayed for this procedure, and this time of your life. Both you and Jan are an inspiration to us. Your testimony to the faithfulness and truth of Jesus to your family in Illinois is beautiful. Not only are you a witness to them, but to all around you that know you even a little. Keep putting one foot in front of the other… remembering the bigger story is unfolding and that you are in it.

Dan,
We’ve been keeping up with you through Lee in our small group and the web site and put you on the prayer list weekly. Know that we are praying for you and the family and that your friend, Lee, serves you well. Everyone should have a guy like him in his corner.
We will keep it up and wish for you the best.

Dan,

Many years ago when I was in a hospital bed in Chicago, the Lord spoke to me about the importance of “being” versus “doing”. I was reminded of that lesson after reading your recent update. It is so easy to get caught up in doing things. We all need to be still and know HE is God and to remember what truly is important. I appreciate what you shared. Thank you.

Praying for you and Jan and your family,
Susan

Judie

Thank you for sharing your heart, Dan. What a true warrior you are for Christ!

I pray God’s peace will continue as you bask in His love and grace.

Dear Dan,
You and Jan and your family are in our thoughts and prayers every day. Your post was an inspiration to us. I just finished reading for the second time “What Did Jesus Say About That?” which you gave to us 25 years ago. Thought about you through the entire book. You have been and still are a blessing to Gary and I.

Dan,
Sorry you were not feeling well when I was in Knoxville. It was good to visit with Jan and see the grace of God that showed from her heart. Her testimony of God’s faithfulness to the two of you was one I will not forget. My prayer is that God would continue to bring glory to His name through your lives. Blessing to you and I hope to see you when I am back in Knoxville.

Hi Dan the Man!

Kristin Livesay sent me a link to this site and updated me. I wanted to drop you a note to let you know that I will be praying for you & your family and praising God for bringing you into my life.

You are such an amazing example of walking with Christ. Thank you for sharing the love and joy that you have as an overflow of the relationship you have with Him.

My church family and I will be praying for you.

Hey Dan,

Dan, My 2OB, The girls and I were looking through a slide show CD Lori made and it reminded me of all the great times we had as kids. How you used to tease me until that fateful day I called you “iron-jaw” b/c you were wearing braces. How we laughed at that one! I don’t think you teased me too much after that. It’s like you said in your journal and what I try to instill in the girls, it’s the relationships that matter, the family that’s important, and above all, a life guided by Our Lord. I am thankful also that you do not have the pain described by the doctor. That is surely divine intervention. Amen. You and your family are in our prayers daily, and that the Lord places His healing hand over you, and that He holds you in the palm of His hand to comfort you. Love, ML

Gregor Smee

Dan,

I don’t know why our paths didn’t cross more over the years at Fellowship. Somehow we just ran in different circles. But you and Jan have always been part of “the family”. Jennifer and I love you both. We continue to pray for you. Dan, you are a man of amazing strength. Thank you for setting the bar high. You are iron sharpening iron. We are all better Christ followers for your example. Peace, joy and rest to you and Jan.

Jerri Penley

Dan and Jan,

Vicky and I are still following this site closely.

It’s really cool you got to see the shuttle launch.

Dan, your comments about not washing your car lately reminded me again about your Javelin. I can still hear The Guess Who playing from your 8-track! You washed that car more times in h.s. than the total times I’ve ever washed any of my cars. :-) It would be great if someone could dig up a picture or two of your ol’ AMC classic, scan ‘em, and put ‘em up with your photos on this site. Awesome car with an awesome owner.

Rick Dunn

Dan and Jan, I have been thinking about you, reading the journal entries, praising God for you both and praying for you both. You are certainly in the throes of an adventure with God that requires Him at depths most of us cannot even imagine. I know that you are finding Him faithful–that is His nature. But the adventure cannot be easy. Just know that we see you fighting a good fight, running a good race, and keeping the faith. Your life redirects our eyes to Christ, by your words and your actions. I continue to pray for strength, for healing, for grace, and for joy for your both. I know that your energy and time are precious to you and your family. If there is ever a time when it would work to connect in the near future, I am available. If not, know my heart is directed toward the Father on your behalf. on the journey, Rick

Still in thoughts here in Lockport. Not just by family. Wait? I feel I am Family! Better let all “Us Family” know when you come home! Might be able to come up with a cookout for ya’s. Ya think Dad & the Bro’s can come up with a fish or two to fry up? Lots of prayers and love been headin’ your way. Seems to be workin’ too! Best to you and Jan, & the kids. Hope to see you sometime soon.

hi mr.dan we hope you get well soon!

Dave Drum

Dan,
Just thinking about you these past few days and wished to write a brief note of thanks to you. Thanks for being a great neighbor when we first moved to ‘The Ridge’, for being a great leader at our church as we were getting it off the ground, for always–always–being a beacon of hope as to the potential of the Body of Christ, for making a trek across country last year to see Katie tie the knot, and I could go on and on. But most importantly, thank you for your strength and willingness to be carried by our Lord through this difficult time. Your walk has inspired many to claw beyond the confinements of this world and and to reach for the heavens in ways they never thought they would, or even could. We pray for your continued resolve, strength, and endurance.

Dear Dan,

I just wanted to drop a note and let you know how much I enjoyed our time this morning. I’ve always enjoyed getting together with you and Jan. Each time I leave compelled to want to know Jesus more and point others to Him.

I so enjoyed hearing you and Jan’s perspective on life, relationships, and suffering. I won’t soon forget the advice you gave me in regards to choosing a spouse that 1) has surrendered their live to Christ as Savior AND Lord, and 2) to not just marry someone that I can live with, but to marry someone I can’t live without. I can promise you that students at the University of North Carolina will be hearing those words repeated from my mouth in the years to come.

I’m also grateful for the eternal perspective on suffering, and admire how you have gone through this time with such an immovable faith. Wow, faith really is a gift from God!

God has used you to make an eternal impact in so many lives, many more than you can count. I’ve learned so much from hearing about the ways you have used your time, talents, and treasures to serve our loving Savior and point others to Him.

I was a complete stranger when I called and entered your home for the first time in September of 2004 asking if you would be a part of my ministry team, and I have been so blessed by how you have been so kind and generous to me the last five years. Thank you so much for your care and friendship…for it I am eternally grateful.

I will be thinking of you and Jan in the days to come. Thank you so much once again for everything.

Dan,

I was so inspired by your writing that Rick read this morning in church. I know that reading God’s Word is so important. God convicted me as I heard the truth in your comments. The Bible is the ONLY book that has the answers to life. Thanks for your wisdom, boldness, and courage.

I participated in Backyard Experience last weekend and couldn’t help but think of our Mexico Mission Trip where you served God so diligently with a strong and zealous spirit. Christ has molded you to be so much like Him.

Thanks again for your service to Christ, cheerful personality, and smile. Christ shines through you abundantly. May Christ bless you and bring you peace and comfort.

Grace, Goodness, and Love,

Melissa (formerly Saliba) Tucker

Dear Dan,

Your comments on being in the word and keeping the word in your heart struck home to me. Last year I was faithful to be in the word daily, journal daily what spoke to me and be faithful to keep up with reading. This year I started out great but lost my commitment by March. God has been reminding me in sermons, emails, and readings that I still do that he misses my time with him. Your July posting was the one that has brought me back to my time in the word.

Paula and I keep you in our evening prayers and God puts you on our minds at many other times during the week. Your postings speak volumes of the Christian man that lives within Dan Kuban. I have always admired the strength of your faith, the love you show for family and others, and the quiet, positive manner that displays your faith.
There is a saying that believers are a church to nonbelievers. They are looking at us to see what type of church we are- Do we keep our word ? Are we examples of grace and mercy ? Do we take shortcuts in our ethics and morals ? Is there enough evidence of our walk that a jury will convict us of being a believer ? Your life is the church that they should see.

In Christ,

Jere Watkins

Dan,

News doesn’t always travel fast. Just heard today of your “condition”. I don’t have anything to say that hasn’t been said a 100 times before in this column. I remember you well and always energetic and cheerful with an inside joyous glow. After 32 years at the “ridge” I’m still pluggin along and have yet to meet anyone like you. May God shine his face upon you every day and bless you and keep you.

Dan, Greetings from Karen, Kenya. We recently moved out of Nairobi to a home just 2 Km from West Nairobi School where Juanita continues to teach 6th grade. I continue to serve as a Bible translation consultant for a variety of Bible translation teams in Tanzania and Kenya.

I was wondering what I could say to encourage the encourager, i.e., the first person that comes to my mind in everyone that I have met who exemplifies the Rom 12:8 gift of encouragement. BTW, that’s you. The answer came from my own heart/soul. What motivates me the most, i.e., gives me the greatest kick, is knowing that God has used me to bless someone else spiritually. So I want to encourage you that you have blessed me on many occasions, as long ago as the spiritual gifts class at Covenant, to your sermon about death that I recently downloaded from C3 … and these are lasting blessings. May God continue to bless you and may He draw you and your family close together and close to Him.
Your brother in Christ,
Tom

I read your blog for encouragement and strength. How amazing is that! Nothing that the Lord blesses you with is a surprise. You are a man with a heart full of Him!!

Thank you for the sweet love story you just wrote about. How blessed Heather, Jennifer and I have been to have spent time with the loves of your life.

I remember the great work we did at X-10. It started you off onto a wonderful and blessed career. I have just heard of Dan’s trials and challenges today. Life and health are so precious. I pray that you and your family may find strength in the Lord to move beyond this great tragedy.

You have my fondest thoughts and prayers.

Hey Uncle Dan, what’s up? Just finished puttin a new radiator on the green truck, as well as a new fuel filter. My mechanic and I think it will run forever. Pushing 173,000 miles on the odometer. It’s travels now include the regions of northern California, Oregon and Washington. Was hoping to get a trifecta going and cross into Canada, but not enough time. She’s already seen Mexico and lots of new U.S. areas.

Hope you’re good, thanks for visiting my folks up north and my mom is ravin about the saw, she loves it. And from what I hear the foreman (Dad) approves.

Me- In training right now for the upcoming feature entitled, Sol, where I play a space soldier in training from the future. Pretty amazing, life’s fun like that. Hey, Dan, Just wanted to say that it was really great to see you last week. I thank God we had the time together. Although I cannot be geographically closer, you will always be close in my heart and mind.
I did pretty well on the targets considering I had not picked up a gun in over 8 years.
…And I developed a few more gray hairs –Danielle’s started driving! She’s inheriting the ‘96 white 4-runner–over 240,000 miles and going strong!
We continue to pray for you and your family. We love you and Jan so much.

Hey Dan,

Listened to your sermon on the final enemy yesterday. I related to how true it is that not only every day, but every breath is a gift from the Lord. I always like the saying “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away”.

Take care,
Ric

Judie

Wish I could embrace your strength and courage. I so long for an understanding of your faith in the Lord. You amaze me!

Marty Pasdertz

You and Jan been in my thoughts and prayers for some time now. Wish some how we could have caught up during this summer visit to “Wis.” lol If for nothing else than to say hello! Best to you and your family,,,,, my “extended family!” Maybe over the holidays coming up, if you guys come North. Never will forget the “YELLOW” Javelin, or a day in Champaign, humping a keg down the street during State Wrestling Finals! What stupid things we did when we were young! And Learning! The memories we have from back when, that turned us into who we are now! All my best to ya’ “Danny.” And my prayers. Hope to see you soon.

Stephanie Kuban

Hey Uncle Dan, just wanted to say hi and let you know that you are in my thoughts. Schools going good, all these math classes are keeping me really busy. I am in my last engineering math class this semester, diff e.q., and all math proofing classes after that. Less than 2 years and I am done! Well, I hope things are going well, I’m praying for you, love you.

I value all the conversations, breakfasts, teaching, and mission trips we were able to share. You were always a man to admire and to mine for wisdom. I’ll never forget your admonition to make sure my masters and doctoral studies do not lure me away from making an on-the-ground difference in people’s lives. I actually stepped out of university life and into a role researching, evaluating, and funding ministries doing effective work with that motivation. Wish I was around you these days to stop by and get the latest Kuban heresy, a good laugh, and some good thoughts. Love and respect ya. - paul

I was thinking of you a lot today (Oct 12th) as I am preparing to make a trip out to California to Mike and Lauren’s. They are going to have their second child - a girl - any day now. I have just returned from Paul’s in Colorado where they just had their second child - a girl on September 25th. Both of my boys and my daughter Michelle make me think of you a lot. The input you have had in their lives has been evident. I can only thank you for your love and commitment to all the young people who have walked into and through your life. Thank you for being a picture of Jesus to them. I pray for you and Jan and the family. You are all wished lots of love from me. Thank you, Dan!!

Dan: You come to my mind often these days. I pray for comfort in an all surpassing way from our Lord for you and Jan. Seems like just yesterday that we were in a community group with Larry and Jo Lee. That community group was just a glimpse of what I think heaven is like! My Reed got married!!! He thinks of you also, Admires you so much and is blessed to have worked with you in OBY. Love you,

Dan, I was looking you up online and came across this website, which “gave me pause”. But it has also prompted me to pray for you. You have always been generous with your business advice to me (which I have valued greatly) when I’ve come to you. Bless you and email me if you have the time and desire.

May the Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead and lives inside you, also give life to your mortal body.

May you be blessed,

Hey Dan, The Lord has brought you and Jan to mind many times these past few days. How we wish we could scoop you up and transport you to China for a little exotic visit! But we thank the Lord that, through His Spirit, these cavernous distances of time and space are but a quick thought or a whispered prayer away. Please know that there are many such thoughts and prayers being transported heavenward on your behalf. We love you and your amazing family…

Hey Dan and Jan,
The Holy Spirit has been speaking your name to me these past few days. I’ve learned to pray and listen when HE does this. Please know you are both being lifted up.
God Bless,
Debbie Bevard

Susan Gonzalez

Dan,
So glad to hear about your wonderful “church at home”. We have done this on a few, rare occasions, but your note has reminded me what a blessing it can be. Please know that we continue to lift you, Jan, your boys and their families to the Father in prayer. We don’t always know exactly how to pray, but we know the One we pray to knows exactly what you need.

Grace and peace to you,
Susan

Dan,
You have been on my mind a lot lately and especially the last 2 days. I feel as though the Holy Spirit is bring you and Jan to my mind. I am praying for you, Jan, the boys and their families, also for those that are especially close to your family. I pray for a miracle, for peace, comfort and days filled with hope. As we know our hope is in the Lord not in what science says or thinks they know. You are such an inspiration to the community and to those that have watched you for years with your boys, Fellowship Youth Group and in more recent years as you have struggled with growing a small business into a huge success and the change that brought to you and your families’ lives. Even seeing you at the mall with your young granddaughter. Now just being briefly around you or Jan during this time in your life and how you handle it with dependance on God and then the glow that brings to those around you. My respect for you is great as I have watched you over the years. Because I have never taken the opportunity to express these thoughts to you, it seem as though it was time.

Much love and prayers to Jan and you,
Diane (&Ken) Hawkins

Dear Dan,
I spoke with your Mom last night and got a blow by blow description of her weekend with you, Jan, the boys and grand children. What a blessing, to have so many of your loved ones together in your home. You are such a special person and well loved by God and so many people. We continue to pray for you, Jan and your family. May His love give you the strength and courage in your journey.
Love you much.

Dan,

Glad you were able to enjoy church-at-home recently. Today, my 18 year old son enjoyed church with “Nanny,” his grandmother that lives in Clemson. We went to church with her Sunday morning after a sound defeat of Clemson over Virginia on Saturday night. Nanny was so very proud to have her oldest grandson at her side, as other church members recalled how small he was when he attended vacation bible school during summers not-so-long-ago. What special memories we have with those we love at church and at home. Take Care.

Susan Gonzalez

Dan,
As I was telling my extended family things I was thankful for around our Thanksgiving Day table, I was telling them how thankful I was for you, your testimony especially over this past year, and how God has given you grace to minister to so many people in this recent “hard part” of your journey. We are continuing to lift up you and your family to the Lord in prayer and know you are in His precious hands for now and all eternity. We are thankful that you and Jan have blessed our lives.

Blessings to you, my brother in Christ,
Susan

Bob Moye

Dan and Jan,
You’ve been on my heart continuously over the past several weeks. Like Susan’s message from 11-28, I found myself walking on the beach Thanksgiving Day praising God for the witness and mentor you are spiritually. Thanking him for fond memories of Juarez and Hurricane Katrina trips and bad coffee and long & wonderful days of sweat and dirt! I continue to pray for the Lord’s real and physical embrace upon you each day. I love you guys!!
In Him,
Bob

Chelsea Tolliver

Hey Dan, It doesn’t seem like nearly enough…but thanks. Thanks for everything you taught me: from what you taught me with felt boards and crafts in Sunday School, to what you taught me with paint and hammers at Operation Backyard. You’ve meant so much to me. Thanks.

Ric Bertolotti

Dan,

Your message on “the last enemy” was very good. While I’m still one of those cradle Catholics who don’t study chapter and verse until they are memorized, your thoughts were very clear on the bible teachings. Very well done !

As I travelled to Huntington to visit my girls and one of the grandsons, I prayed a rosary for you and a family who just lost their daughter, Beckie. She was in our youth group at church years ago with my oldest, Don. I prayed for him also.

In a very chance meeting, I saw Beckie in the summer of 2008 at Ocean Isle Beach, NC. It was a chance meeting since our family had never been to that beach before, and I had not seen Beckie for a few years. She was her usual bubbly self, talking quickly, almost with a tone that showed some self consciousness. Beckie had kidney problems all her life. Margo told me about a month ago that she was in a hospice care home. But still, I didn’t believe she was dying.

Beckie is still alive to me. I’ll always have that visual of her walking down that beach.

God bless you and your family this Christmas season,

Ric

Dear sweet ones, I can’t experience Christmas without remembering so many Christmases with the Kuban family. The precious little boxes filled with special figurines that were so carefully unwrapped as part of advent. Thank you for the gift you gave to Heather, Jennifer and me. All the money or riches in the world would never take the place of my memories. A special Christmas love to you all! Jude

Dan & Jan,

Buenos Dias! I just wanted to let you know that I have been thinking about you and praying for you often. I also wanted to thank you both for sharing your lives, your hearts, and your faith in Christ. I count getting to know you as one of the most rewarding aspects of my time at Habitat for Humanity.

Dan, I also wanted to let you know that through our talks about your work with Spanish speaking students, you helped inspire me to return to teaching - but this time on a new path. I returned to school to get licensed to teach English as a Second Language, and I am now working for KCS as an ESL teacher!

You have impacted many lives for the better, and I am thankful to be one of them. May God continue to richly bless you and your family.

Hey Dan,
We love you and we wanted you to know that we treasure you as a friend. We are praying that God would strengthen you with power through his spirit in your inner being and that Christ would dwell in your heart through faith. And that you would know how wide, long, high and deep is the love of Christ and know His love that surpasses knowledge. Last, that you would be filled to measure of all the fullness of Christ (ref Eph 3).

Dear Dan et al,

It has been a while since I’ve written. Haven’t heard much news from your side of the family.

Margo graduates on May 8th ! She will receive a BS Nursing degree Plus a BA in Spanish from Marshall University. She is set to start work in Mid-June. She had the cutest graduation invitation with her son Leo on her lap. He was wearing her graduation mortar board ! It was titled “We’ve come a long way, Baby!”

Blessings on all of your family.

Ric Bertolotti

And the big news is that Don will be entering Medical School at Marshall in the fall. We are all so happy for him and wish him the best in his new endeavor. He actually graduated in December, but will be celebrating the graduation on May 16th.

Robert Cathey

Dan:

You’ve been close to my thoughts and in my prayers since learning of your diagnosis last fall. I did not learn until this morning about dankuban.com, but am so thankful you’ve set this up. What a wonderful way to see your witness and provide a gathering place for those who wish you and your family God’s blessings!

Jonathan (Larry)

Mr. Kuban, just got through talking with Kevin on facebook. He told me about the site. I wanted to let you know that I have always had positive views of you and your family. I remember days riding my bike down the street to play basketball and have water ballon fights. We always felt like it was a loving environment and a place of acceptance. The following passage from 1st Peter has always given me an image of you as an elder/leader in kingdom.

To the elders among you… Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
… clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
“God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith… And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. (1st Peter 5)

I think highly of you and thank God for the ways he has and will use you for the kingdom.

Jonathan “Larry” Grissom

P.S. I became a christian in college. I am using my degree in chemistry combined with my masters in education to teach high school students and coach track. I get to know them in the classroom and on the track. Through my volunteering as a Young Life leader I get to share my faith. Just trying to spread the light.

Tommy Grissom

Hey Dan I just wanted to thank you for allowing me to come to your house so much as a kid. I want to thank you for being a godly example to a kid who didn’t know Jesus in a personal way at the time. God is good and saved my soul and he even used me to evangelize my brother Larry. Always know that God is working for the good of his children. By the way I saw Rob at a social studies conference in Memphis and it was exciting to see a face from the past. Glad to hear that all the kids are doing well. Holla

Judie

As I think of you and your family, I am drawn to John 15: “You didn’t choose me, remember, I chose you, and put you in the world to bear fruit.” Dan, you and Jan and you precious family are a gigantic bowl of fresh, ripe fruit! Please know that you and your family continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Because of Him,

Dear Dan

I, just found about your web-site today from a friend at work today or I would have written sooner. I have kwown about your situation for a while. My cousin Mike Mahoney e-mailed me about you and also I work with your brother-in-law Gary Tondini and when ever I see him I ask him how you are doing, and I tell when he talks to you to tell you I’m praying for you. I believe you are in God’s hand and to put your trust in him. I’ll be praying for you.

What a very SPECIAL day last Saturday was. I was able to spend a little time with you and you precious family. Thank you for the example you set for those of us with less. Our Lord is amazing…just amazing!!

I love what DL Moody said about himself that is also true about Dan… “He is more alive now than he has ever been.” Oh the joy of sending a saint home…you can almost hear the cheers of heaven. But oh how he will be missed. His wisdom from living so closely with the Lord…his encouragement to keep on following hard after the Lord…his smile and laughter…all that he is in body and spirit. May your memories be sweet with no regrets.

Brigham Thomas

Is it OK to admit that reading Dan’s obituary made me smile? “Someday you will read in the papers that I am dead. Don’t you believe a word of it! At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now.” Guessing Dan won’t be resting in peace!

Tom and Juanita Matthews

Dear Jan and family,
You all and Dan are very special people. We know that God will be with you in definite ways in the coming weeks and months. We will pray that you will recognize His presence, and His comfort. Thanks for your testimonies.

Dan was a wonderful neighbor and friend! I have many fond memories of Dan but the ones that stick out in my mind the most are the many many times he would stop in front of our driveway while I was washing my car and would yell “scrub harder!” Dan was always there to help, whether with an opinion or needed tool that we didnt have. He was one of a kind, we will never forget him.

Sherri Holder

Precious Jan, Scott, Jeff, Rob and Kevin I loved Dan and his gift of teaching. We were taught by him when our boys were much younger in a bible study that he led, it met in each others homes. He was always upbeat, and happy. I will always remember him with a sweet memory. Much love to you all from Sherri,Jim,Mark and Matthew Holder.

Kuban family…I’ve always strived to “live a life of significance” and Dan was a walking role model and mentor on how to do so! I haven’t seen him in a number of years but his impact on my spirit will live always.

Dear Jan & Family…We are so sorry to hear about Dan.We will always remember what a special

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Kuban family and all who were blessed enough to spend time with Dan. He was the first person to ever truly make me believe in myself as a young adult and I can’t count all the times he made me laugh. He was a wonderful man with an endlessly generous heart and I consider myself lucky to have counted him among my role models. I cannot imagine anyone whose presence will be more missed by us on Earth, or whose entrance into heaven will be more celebrated.

Allthrough life you meet extraordinary people whose lives affects many people and impacts you. Dan is one of those people. His love for his family and his friends is unparalleled. He lived his life in service to others. In his last few months of life he continued that practice by helping a family with a new Habitat for Humanity House that was dedicated by his family yesterday to the new family. I have know Dan for many years and love him and his family. He is a special person and will continue in all our hearts. He is teh epitome of my favaorite saying: The Life YOU Lead IS The Lesson you teach. THANK YOU Dan for the lesson you have taught us all.

Dear Jan and Family,

I was privileged to have known Dan, and to have worked with him in the 1980s and 90s. I’ve never met a more upbeat person; his positive approach to life was contagious and it was always a joy to be around him. My wife and I extend our sincerest condolences.

Nancy and Gerald Calia

We first met Daniel when he coached our son Kevin in baseball. You just knew instantly that he was a class person. He was the kind of person that made you feel good just being around him. I am hard pressed to think of a more cordial and caring person. Whenever we would run into him it was as if he knew us all of our lives. We will really miss him and he is in our prayers. I have a tear in my eye just having to type this. The world has lost a wonderful soul but heaven has gained another angel. Dan and his family are in our prayers. Gerald Calia

Can’t help but think about 2 Timothy 4:6-8, a passage that seems particularly applicable to Dan. He lived the life of a follower of Christ so well, and exhibited so much faith and grace during his illness.

Jan and family, thank you for sharing Dan with Covenant and Fellowship. I am a beneficiary of your youth ministry with the Jenkins at Covenant. What great times! And Saturday evening I found myself speechless as I listened to four godly young men share thoughts of their father. There absolutely could not have been a better testimony of the Dan’s life. You all remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Ashley Stevens

Jan, Kevin, and family,

Reading through the four boys comments at Dan’s celebration brought tears to my eyes because they spoke ABSOLUTE truth to the beautiful, and ongoing, witness of Dan’s life to our loving creator. I wish so badly that I could’ve been there to celebrate his life, but know you will continue to be in my prayers and memories with Dan on his front porch with Jan, at TSA events, and having fellowship with friends at his place will reside in my heart forever.

Pray for us, Dan! We can’t wait to come home to you!

Uncle Dan,
I know you can’t really sit at a computer to read this. But, maybe you can see from way up there. I never really had a chance to thank you for helping me when I needed it. At the time, I was never really thankful for everything you did but, now I realize that you really cared. There’s nothing that I could have wanted more. I wish I could have told you while you were here. Tell Jesus I said “Hello”, will ya? I love you.

Dear Dan, Jan and boys,
I stopped by the site to find out Dan has run the race, crossed the finish line, a winner as always and especially. For you Dan, I am both happy and sad. I had held out the hope since our last reunion that we would get in touch once again. We will, though on a different time line than I had imagined. Jan, my heart goes out to you. May your grief be as short as it will be sharp.

I too was shocked to hear the news the the work of Dan on this earth is done - well done by a loving and faithful servant, but continues by the lives touched by Dan. It has been years since I babysat all the boys…just time with you and Dan when you would get home - in conversation and such an example of a Christ-filled marriage. Dan, still corrected my letters I would send from college…I still liked that he was such a mentor in every sense of the word and WORD! What great boys you all have grown to be - what a wonderful blessing that God provided you with such a wonderful father - a true example of our Father! I love you all, pray for you often and look forward to catching up with Dan one day in Heaven!

God Bless, Kristen and the Beck Family

Hello, Jan, Duffy, Mark, Lori and families,
I was surprised to find this website while looking up friends from Lockport. I’m sorry about Dan’s battle; he was a great athlete and such an inspiration. Please know that you are all thought about kindly and I’ll pray for your strength through Jesus.
Love,
Deana

I like to imagine Dan smiling and dancing right now as He praises and worships the LORD!
